Today’s Devotional:
Love Without Favorites
Luke 6:35
“But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.”
During recess, Dito saw Rian struggling to carry some books to class. Dito was actually still annoyed because Rian had teased him while they were playing the day before. He briefly thought about just letting him be. However, Dito chose to approach Rian and help carry some of his books. Rian was surprised and said, “Thank you.” Dito felt happy because he chose to do good.
Rehobot Kids, loving people who are kind to us might feel easy. However, true love is also shown when we choose to do good to those who have upset or disappointed us. We don’t need to respond to teasing with teasing, or to bad treatment with bad actions.
Of course, loving others doesn’t mean letting them keep hurting or bothering us. If someone treats us poorly, we can speak up firmly and ask for help from parents, teachers, or trusted adults. Yet, we still learn not to hate them or retaliate with evil.
Come on, Rehobot Kids, let’s learn to love without favorites. Ask God to help us keep doing good, forgiving, and having a loving heart—even toward those who are hard to love. Through our attitude, others can see God’s real love.
