Guarding Our Hearts and Words

Psalm 19:14
“May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.”

Shinta had a favorite pair of shoes, even though the color had faded a little. One day at school, some of her friends teased her, “Your shoes are so ugly!” Shinta immediately felt sad and upset. She really wanted to tease them back.

But then Shinta remembered God. She closed her eyes for a moment and prayed, “Lord, please help me think and speak in a good way.” After that, Shinta chose to smile and simply said, “It’s okay.” Seeing her gentle response, her friends felt sorry and eventually apologized. Shinta’s heart became calm again.

Rehobot Kids, God doesn’t only see what we say, but also what is inside our hearts. When we let anger or hurtful words control our hearts, it can lead us to do wrong things. But when we ask God for help, He gives us the strength to choose what is right.

Let’s learn to guard our hearts and our words every day. If someone hurts us, let’s pray first before we act. God will help us stay gentle and not be controlled by negative feelings. In that way, our lives will please Him.
