Get Rid of Garbage in Your Heart
Ephesians 4:31–32
“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
Rehobot Kids, who likes the smell of trash? Surely no one! If trash is left to pile up in the house, it will eventually rot and smell bad. Therefore, we must diligently throw it away so that the house remains clean and comfortable.
Did you know? Our hearts can also have “garbage.” That garbage can be anger, hatred, jealousy, hurt, or the desire for revenge. If we keep it inside, our hearts will be uncomfortable and far from God’s peace.
God does not want our hearts to be filled with such trash. He teaches us to get rid of bitterness and replace it with kindness, love, and forgiveness. How? Come to God in prayer. Say honestly, “God, I am still angry. Please help me forgive.” God is able to cleanse our hearts.
It may not be easy, especially when we are hurting. But when we surrender it to God, He gives us a new heart—a heart that is gentle and full of love.
Let’s start today by diligently getting rid of the “trash in our hearts.” Let our hearts be clean, fragrant, and full of love. A clean heart brings us peace… and of course, it pleases God.
