Today’s devotional is titled:
Gentle Words
Proverbs 15:1
“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”
One day, Roni invited his friend Harry to play at his house. They were having a great time playing with Roni’s favorite toy.
Suddenly, Roni’s little brother came in and accidentally broke the toy. Roni immediately became angry. He shouted at his brother, and they started arguing.
Harry, who saw what was happening, did not stay silent. He tried to calm them down. Roni’s brother went back to his room with an upset face, while Roni was still very angry.
At that moment, Harry remembered a lesson from Sunday School about God’s Word, which says that a gentle answer can calm anger. Harry wanted to try doing what God’s Word teaches.
So Harry spoke to Roni in a gentle voice. He helped Roni calm down and encouraged him to think peacefully. After Roni began to relax, Harry said, “Maybe your brother didn’t mean to do it. How about saying sorry first so you can make peace?”
Roni thought about Harry’s words. Finally, he agreed. Roni and Harry went to his brother’s room. With a calmer heart, Roni apologized to his brother, and his brother forgave him. Not long after, they were able to play together happily again.
Rehobot Kids, from this story we learn that gentle words can calm a heart that is angry. God teaches us not to speak harshly, but to choose words that are kind and gentle. So, Rehobot Kids, let’s learn to use gentle words so we can bring peace to the people around us.
