More Than Just an Offering
1 Samuel 15:22
“But Samuel replied: Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.”
One day, Dad asked Riko to turn off the TV and get ready for Sunday School right away. However, Riko said, “Just a minute, Dad. The cartoon isn’t over yet.” Even though he had been reminded, Riko kept procrastinating. When he arrived at church, he proudly put his offering into the collection bag. Riko thought that was enough to please God. However, while listening to God’s Word at Sunday School, he learned that God doesn’t just look at what we give, but also whether we are willing to obey Him.
Rehobot Kids, God is pleased when we give offerings, pray, and praise Him. However, God also wants us to learn to listen and do what is right. Obeying our parents, telling the truth, doing our homework diligently, and being willing to apologize when we’re wrong are forms of worship that please God.
In the Bible, King Saul offered a sacrifice to God, but he did not do what God commanded. Through Samuel, God taught that obedience is more important than sacrifice. So, let’s learn to be obedient—not because we’re afraid of being scolded, but because we love God and want to please Him!
