A Heart That Is Willing to Listen

Hebrews 3:15
“Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”

Rehobot Kids, imagine dry, cracked soil that has not had rain for a long time. If we plant seeds in soil like that, they will have a hard time growing. But soft, loose soil is different. When seeds are planted and watered, the plants can grow well and flourish. Our hearts can be like that soil, too.

Every day God speaks to us. God speaks through His Word, through the advice of our mom and dad, through our teachers, and even through the small voice in our hearts that reminds us to do what is right. In order for God’s voice to “enter” our hearts, our hearts need to be soft and willing to listen.

A hard heart is like closing our ears tightly. Usually, our hearts become hard when we feel we are right, do not want to be corrected, get angry when advised, or procrastinate in doing good things. God reminds us in Hebrews 3:15 not to harden our hearts when we hear His voice.

On the contrary, a soft heart is a heart that is willing to be shaped by God. Children with soft hearts are willing to listen when they are advised, quickly apologize when they do wrong, and are willing to obey God’s word even though it is sometimes not easy. God loves children who are humble like this.

Rehobot Kids, let’s learn to have hearts that are willing to listen. When our hearts are tender, God can plant many good things in our lives. We will grow into wise, loving children who are a blessing to many people.
