Today’s Devotional Title:
Willing to Follow Jesus
Matthew 9:9
As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.
Raka had just come home from school. He saw his neighbor angrily yelling at a parking attendant in front of the food stall.
“Ugh, all that guy does is ask for money!” the neighbor shouted in frustration.
Raka felt sorry for the parking attendant. When he got home, he told his mom what had happened. His mom smiled and said, “Sometimes people have jobs that others look down on. But God can use anyone — even those who are disliked — to be a blessing.”
Then Mom told Raka a story about Matthew. He worked as a tax collector, and people really didn’t like him. But Jesus didn’t look down on Matthew. Instead, He called him to be one of His disciples. And amazingly, Matthew left his job right away and followed Jesus. Later, God used Matthew to write the Gospel that we can still read today!
Truth Kids friends, from Matthew we learn what it means to obey. When Jesus called, Matthew followed immediately — even though others hated him. God doesn’t look at our past; He looks at our hearts.
If you truly want to follow Jesus, your life can also become a great blessing to many people!
