Who Feeds the Cat?
“For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.” – Psalm 1:6
In a small alley lived a boy named Dion. He loved cleanliness, kept everything neat, but didn’t like animals—especially stray cats. For Dion, the strays were “trouble.” They made a mess, meowed loudly at night, and stole fish from the kitchen.
At the end of the alley was an old gray tabby cat people called Si Abu. He walked with a limp and often sat under a mango tree, watching people pass by. Dion always chased him away with shouts, sometimes even with small stones. “Go away! This isn’t your place!”
But one day, Dion noticed something strange. Every morning, Si Abu sat quietly, and in front of him there was always a small bowl filled with rice or leftovers. Dion wondered, “Who’s feeding him?” Curious, he sneaked out one night and hid behind a tree, waiting. Suddenly, a man appeared carrying a small bag. He sat near Si Abu, stroked the old cat’s head, and pulled a bowl of food from the bag. Dion tried to get closer—but the man was gone. Only Si Abu and the bowl of food remained.
The next day, Dion asked everyone, “Did you see the man who feeds Si Abu?” Everyone shook their heads. Dion fell silent. That night he opened his Bible and read a devotional his Sunday school teacher had sent. He paused, then looked out the window. There was Si Abu, sitting calmly as usual. But this time, Dion took a small plate from the kitchen and walked outside quietly. “If the Lord remembers even the sparrows,” he whispered, “then surely He also remembers Si Abu.”
