Today’s Devotional:
Walking Forward with Eyes on the Cross

“Going a little farther, He fell with His face to the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.’”
— Matthew 26:39

Have you ever tried starting a new year with high spirits, only to suddenly lose direction? Or maybe you made neat plans—goals, schedules, dreams—but still aren’t sure where this year is really taking you. We’ve all been there. And surprisingly, Jesus experienced a moment like that too. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He faced fear and the weight of what was ahead. He knew suffering was coming, yet He chose obedience. His prayer was simple but powerful: not His will, but the Father’s.

True focus isn’t about how perfectly we kick off the year—it’s about how faithfully we walk with Jesus through uncertainty. A new year often pushes us to chase targets: good grades, a cool career, ideal health, or a life that looks “perfect.” But without realizing it, we can lose sight of the One who gives meaning to all those things: Jesus Himself.

If you’re a teen, a student, or someone just building your future, remember this: life isn’t only about impressive plans or achievements that go viral. Sometimes God isn’t asking for something “wow” by the world’s standards—He’s shaping your heart to become more like Christ. When your focus is on the cross, not your accomplishments, your life becomes more grounded and filled with peace.

So this year, don’t just focus on the finish line or the end results. Fix your eyes on the cross—the place where Jesus showed perfect obedience, love, and sacrifice. As long as your gaze stays on Him, every step you take—even the small, unseen ones—matters deeply to God.

What to Do:

1. Take a quiet moment today and ask God: “Lord, what do You want me to focus on this year?”

2. Write down one thing you want to change so that this year, you can grow closer to Jesus not just get busy chasing worldly goals.
