The Word That Shapes Our Lives
Psalm 119:9
“How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.”
Hi, Rehobot Youth! We live in a world with many standards for what is considered good and right. As long as someone doesn’t harm others, behaves politely, and follows the rules, they’re often considered a good person. All of that is certainly important. However, as children of the Kingdom, we’re called to live by a higher standard—not merely to be good by human standards, but to live in a way that pleases God.
The psalmist asks, how can a young person keep their life pure? The answer is by living in accordance with God’s Word. This shows that the Word is not just to be read or known, but to be loved and made the standard of our lives. The world may change in determining what is considered right or wrong, but God’s Word provides the truth that guides us to understand what is pleasing to Him.
Rehobot Youth, loving God’s Word means making room for the Word to shape our character. The Word teaches us to remain honest when lying is considered normal, to forgive when retaliation feels more satisfying, to maintain holiness when our surroundings deem it unimportant, and to love even when we receive no reciprocation. This is where the life of a believer should be different. We don’t just ask, “Is everyone doing this?” or “Is this still considered normal?” but rather, “Is this in accordance with God’s will?”
Therefore, Rehobot Youth, don’t just be a morally good person. Be someone who loves the Word and allows it to shape your entire life. The more we come to know and obey God’s Word, the more our character is shaped to be like Christ’s. The highest standard for our lives is not what the world considers good, but what is pleasing to God’s heart.
What To Do?
1. Read the Word with a desire to know God and His will.
2. Before making a decision, ask whether it is pleasing to God.
3. Apply one truth of the Word in your words and actions every day.
