The Temptation of Shortcuts on the Journey of Calling
“There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” – Proverbs 14:12
On the journey to fulfill God’s calling, we’re often tempted to take shortcuts—especially in a world that praises quick results over long processes. We want ministry that’s instantly recognized, businesses that go viral, or transformation that happens overnight. But not every fast path is God’s path.
Even Jesus was tempted with a shortcut. In the wilderness, the devil offered Him worldly power—if only He would bow down. But Jesus refused. He knew His calling couldn’t be compromised for instant results. The way of the cross was hard, but it was the path He chose because obedience mattered more than popularity.
Sometimes we don’t realize that our desire for quick success can pull us away from the very process God has ordained. God isn’t only concerned with where we end up—but also with how we get there.
What to Do:
1. Reflect: Is there an area in your life where you’re tempted to take a “shortcut”?
2. Pray that God will strengthen you to remain obedient in the process—even when it feels slow.
