Today’s Devotional:
The Same Focus for a New Beginning

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith.”
— Hebrews 12:2

A new year often makes us busy writing resolutions: living healthier, being more faithful in spiritual habits, studying consistently, or becoming the “best version” of ourselves. But let’s be honest—most of that excitement usually lasts only a few weeks. After that, we slip back into old habits, lose our direction, and feel like we’ve failed. Maybe the problem isn’t the new year… but where our focus is pointing. After the warm Christmas atmosphere fades, we often forget that the One born in the manger is still supposed to be the center of our journey.

Today’s verse reminds us to “fix our eyes on Jesus.” This means that in the middle of all the new things we want to achieve, our gaze must stay on the same Person—Jesus Christ. The focus isn’t the resolution itself, but the One who gives us strength to carry it out. When our eyes stay on Jesus, our steps remain steady even when seasons change—just like that simple, quiet Christmas night that was filled with certainty because God was there.

Remember Peter when he walked on water. As long as his eyes were on Jesus, he could step on the waves. But the moment he shifted his focus to the storm, he began to sink. We’re no different. When our focus shifts from Jesus to our problems, we get pulled into worry and start losing our direction.

So this new year, it’s okay if your goals aren’t drastically different. What matters is that your focus doesn’t change. Keep your eyes on Jesus—the One who was born to lead your steps, who walks with you each day, and who will guide you until the very end. He isn’t just the destination; He’s also the Way that will carry you there.

What to do

1. Before making new resolutions, ask yourself first: “Does this bring me closer to Jesus?”
2.Every morning, start your day with a simple prayer: “Lord, today I want to stay focused on You.”
3. Write down every time God helps or strengthens you so that you remember that your old focus was never wrong: Jesus remains faithful from beginning to end.
