The Garbage Collector

“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them for what they have done.” – Proverbs 19:17

Yesterday we learned about caring for nature. There are so many benefits we can enjoy when the environment is well cared for. But did you know? By caring for nature, we are also caring for other people. How? When we keep things clean and throw trash in its place, we are helping those who work to clean our environment—one of them is the garbage collectors.

Have you ever seen garbage collectors around your neighborhood, Truth Juniors? Sometimes we feel disgusted by garbage. We quickly cover our noses when the garbage cart or truck passes by. But have we ever thought about how the garbage collectors feel?

Every day, they carry away the trash we throw out. Even though it’s dirty and smelly, they keep working. They risk germs and sickness, but they still do it to earn a living for their families. They deserve our respect. So, what can we do to help?

Let’s learn to throw trash in the proper place. Wherever we are, don’t litter. If there’s no trash bin nearby, keep it in your pocket, clothes, or bag first. Later, when you find a bin, throw it away properly.

We can also learn to separate trash by type. For example: plastic, paper, and food waste. This way, garbage can be recycled or processed again. This really helps the garbage collectors in their work.

When we care and show compassion to them, the Lord is pleased. Just as today’s verse says, God will reward every act of kindness we do.
