Today’s devotional is titled:
The First Martyr

Acts 7:59–60
“While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, ‘Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.’ Then he fell on his knees and cried out, ‘Lord, do not hold this sin against them.’ When he had said this, he fell asleep.”

Do you know what the word martyr means, Truth Junior Friends? It comes from the Greek word martys, which means “witness.” A martyr is someone who is willing to suffer or even lose their life because of their faith in Christ. One of the best examples of a martyr is Stephen, who is known as the first martyr. He was stoned to death because he boldly testified about Jesus.

Stephen stayed faithful to God until the very end of his life. Even while people were throwing stones at him, he prayed that God would forgive them. His heart was full of love—he didn’t repay evil with hatred. Stephen’s life is a beautiful example for us to stay faithful and loving, no matter what happens.

Now, let’s look at the story of our friend Santo. He’s a fifth grader who loves to pray, go to church, and read God’s Word. But sometimes, when Santo talks about Jesus, his friends laugh and refuse to listen. Maybe you’ve experienced something like that too. Yet, like Stephen, Santo doesn’t get angry. He keeps praying and believes that God can change his friends’ hearts.

Truth Junior Friends, let’s learn from Stephen and Santo! Don’t be afraid when people reject or make fun of your faith. God is always with and protects those who remain faithful to Him. Keep praying, doing good, and bravely sharing about God’s love—because through your life, others can come to know Jesus too!
