Strong Relationships Need Healthy Boundaries

1 Corinthians 15:33
“…Bad company corrupts good character.”

Sometimes we feel like we have to hold onto every relationship. We’re afraid of losing them, afraid of being seen as bad, or afraid of being alone. In the end, we stay in relationships that are slowly draining us and pulling us away from God.

Paul reminds us that the company we keep shapes us. What we hear, see, and allow into our lives will eventually become part of who we are. So it’s not just about who we spend time with, but who is shaping us.

A strong relationship isn’t one without boundaries, but one that knows its limits. Without boundaries, we can become exhausted, lose our way, and even adopt habits we know are wrong. But with boundaries, we keep our hearts healthy and our faith strong.

Setting boundaries doesn’t mean we don’t love. Sometimes it’s actually the most mature form of love—because we know what needs to be protected. God doesn’t ask us to please everyone, but to live in truth.

Healthy relationships build each other up, not pull each other down. And when we dare to set healthy boundaries, we’re building relationships that are stronger, more honest, and long-lasting.

What To Do?
• Evaluate your relationships—are they having a positive influence or the opposite?
• Learn to set boundaries in relationships that are starting to have a negative impact.
• Choose environments and company that build up your life.
