Today’s Devotional Title:
Stay Standby Even When You’re Not Okay
Psalm 34:18
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Ever feel like you’re not the best version of yourself? Feel less smart, less attractive, less spiritual, or constantly haunted by a past that makes you feel ashamed? Sometimes we think, “I’ll go to God when I’m better.” But God never waits for us to be perfect before He draws near to us.
The world teaches us: if something is broken, replace it. If something is cracked, throw it away. But God is different. He draws even closer when we are brokenhearted and discouraged. He is not disgusted by our process. He does not back away when we are a mess. Staying with God in the midst of difficult circumstances means we dare to be honest and stop pretending to be strong.
Look at Peter. He was emotional, often spoke wrongly, and even denied Jesus three times. By human standards, Peter failed completely. But Jesus didn’t cancel him. Jesus sought him out again, talked to him, restored his heart, and still used him for great things. Peter’s failure was not the end, but a turning point.
So if today you are not okay, stay standby. Keep coming. Keep praying, even if it’s short. Keep showing up, even if your heart is heavy. God is not looking for people who are always strong—He is close to those who are honest and willing to persevere with Him.
What to Do?
1. Don’t wear a “mask” before God.
2. Stop comparing the messy “backstage” of your life with other people’s “cool posts” on Instagram.
3. When you feel incapable, remember that your strength has limits, but God’s love is unlimited.
