Today’s devotional is titled:
Set Free Through Forgiveness

“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
Ephesians 4:31-32

Rehobot Youth, everyone has surely experienced disappointment, hurt, betrayal, or unfair treatment at the hands of others. When this happens, our immediate response is often anger, disappointment, and harboring wounds in our hearts. If not resolved properly, these wounds can turn into bitterness. We might initially think that holding onto bitterness is a form of self-protection, but in reality, bitterness binds our hearts and causes us to lose the peace that God desires to give us.

God’s Word clearly teaches that bitterness is not His will for us. Bitterness makes it difficult to love and find joy; it can even affect our relationships with God and others. The longer we harbor it, the more room we give that wound to control our lives. God does not want His children living in the prison of bitterness. That is why He teaches us to forgive—not because the person who hurt us was right, but because God wants to set our hearts free.

Rehobot Youth, forgiveness does not mean forgetting the painful event or dismissing the other person’s wrongdoing as unimportant. Forgiveness is a decision to surrender our wounds, anger, and the right to seek revenge to God. When we remember that God has already forgiven so many of our own wrongs through Christ, we learn to extend forgiveness to others. Forgiveness is evidence that God’s grace is at work in our lives.

Come on, Rehobot Youth, don’t continue to carry the burden of bitterness which only makes life’s steps difficult. God calls us to start a new life—a life that is free, full of peace, and filled with love. When we choose to forgive, we are opening the door to the healing that God works in our hearts. Forgiveness may not always be easy, but through the help of the Holy Spirit, we are enabled to do it and experience true freedom.

What To Do?
• Be honest with God about the hurt you feel.
• Make the decision to forgive.
• Live in the freedom that God gives you.
