Today’s Devotional Title:
Self-control Creates True Love
Galatians 5:22–23
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
True love is not just about feeling comfortable or excited every time you meet. Galatians shows that love born of the Holy Spirit always goes hand in hand with patience and self-control. This means that healthy love is not wild and does not just follow feelings.
Many relationships are ruined not because of a lack of feelings, but because of a lack of control. When emotions run high, decisions are made without thinking things through. When physical urges arise, boundaries begin to be compromised. Yet mature love knows when to stop and dares to say, “This is not right.”
Self-control does not make love rigid; rather, it makes love safe. Love led by the Holy Spirit does not only think about today, but also about the future. It guards the heart, guards holiness, and guards commitment.
True love waits not because it fears rules, but because it honors God and the future. True love is not just about possession, but about nurturing with responsibility and faithfulness.
What To Do?
1. Build a spiritual routine so that the Holy Spirit leads your decisions.
2. Practice self-control in small ways every day.
3. Choose relationships that bring peace, not pressure or compromise.
