Satisfied with Just Enough

Today’s devotion is titled:
Satisfied with Just Enough

“Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none.”
— Luke 3:11

John the Baptist didn’t live a luxurious life. His clothes were made of camel’s hair, and his food was locusts and wild honey. Yet through his simple lifestyle, he carried a powerful voice and great influence. When people came to him and asked, “What should we do?”, John answered plainly, “If you have two shirts, share one.” It sounds simple, but that’s the heart of spiritual minimalism—to have enough, not excess.

Too often, having too much makes our hearts feel full but actually empty. Today’s Gen Z generation easily falls into the trap of “needing more”: more gadgets, more clothes, more recognition. But John reminds us that what matters isn’t how much we own, but how willing we are to share and live sincerely.

In life, it’s not always easy to say “enough” and resist what looks appealing. Yet in that very moment, God is teaching us gratitude and contentment. A person who feels “enough” isn’t lacking; they’re learning to enjoy God’s presence through simplicity.

From this story, we learn that a simple life isn’t an empty one—it’s a life overflowing with peace and thankfulness. When we reorder our priorities and focus on what truly matters, we’ll discover a joy that the world can’t buy.

What To Do:
1. Reduce excessive desires. When you want to buy something, ask yourself first: “Do I need it or do I just want it?”
2. Practice giving. If you have more, such as time, money, or attention, share it with those in need.
3. Appreciate simplicity. Enjoy the little things: a short prayer, a moment of silence, or an honest conversation without pretense.
