Sacrificing for Others

Mark 10:45
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Hi, Rehobot Youth! The world often measures greatness by how high someone’s position is, how many people know them, or how much profit they’ve managed to make. It’s no wonder we’re easily tempted to pursue attention, comfort, and our own interests. However, Jesus sets a different standard. To Him, greatness is actually seen in a person’s willingness to serve.

Jesus is the greatest example of this. He came not to be served, but to serve. In fact, Jesus gave His life as a ransom for many. His sacrifice on the cross was not merely an example of goodness, but a work of salvation that reveals the depth of God’s love for humanity. Because we have received such great love, we too are called to learn to love and serve others.

Rehobot Youth, a life led by the Holy Spirit will shift our focus from thinking only of ourselves to caring more deeply for others. Serving doesn’t always mean doing something grand. Taking the time to listen to a friend going through a difficult time, helping our parents without being asked, sharing with those in need, or being willing to sacrifice our own comfort to help someone are also tangible expressions of love. Sometimes, love does indeed require us to give something valuable: our time, energy, attention, or even our own comfort.

Therefore, Rehobot Youth, don’t just ask, “What can I get?” Start asking, “How can God use my life to be a blessing?” Following Christ means learning to have a heart of service like His. Greatness in God’s eyes isn’t about how many people serve us, but how willingly we use the life God has given us to love and serve others.

What To Do?
1. Be sensitive to those in need of help, attention, or support.
2. Devote your time, energy, and attention to sincerely helping others.
3. Ask the Holy Spirit to shape a heart that serves out of love, rather than for the sake of praise or recognition.
