Rising Above the Mask
“But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Hi, Rehobot Youth! Have you ever felt like you were living with two versions of yourself? On the outside, you appear fine, spiritual, and active in ministry. Yet deep down, you know there are struggles, sins, or weaknesses that remain unresolved. Eventually, a feeling arises: “I am not worthy to come to God.”
Jesus once told a story about two men praying in the Temple. A Pharisee arrived full of pride, feeling superior to others. In contrast, a tax collector stood at a distance and simply said, “God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” He did not hide his true state and came with an honest heart.
Surprisingly, God justified the tax collector—not because he was a better person, but because he was willing to come before God exactly as he was. This story teaches us that God does not look for a perfect outward appearance; He seeks a heart that is humble, honest, and willing to repent.
The world often pressures us to always look good in front of others. Social media keeps many people busy maintaining an image. Yet, God does not ask us to wear a mask. He invites us to come with all our weaknesses, wounds, and failures. When we are honest before Him, that is where restoration begins.
Rehobot Youth, do not let shame or a sense of unworthiness keep you away from God. No sin is too great for His grace. God is able to restore the life of anyone who comes to Him with an open heart.
What to Do?
• Come to God with an honest heart, without putting on a facade.
• Confess your weaknesses and struggles before Him.
• Learn to live with integrity, so that your outward appearance aligns with who you truly are before God.
