Rest Is Provision
Psalm 127:1-2
“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for he grants sleep to those he loves.”
Rehobot Youth, we live in a world that never stops moving. It’s as if the busier we are, the more meaningful our lives become. A packed schedule is seen as an achievement, staying up late is a source of pride, and resting often feels like a mistake. Without realizing it, we begin to believe that the future depends entirely on our own hard work and strength. Yet, behind all our efforts, there is the hand of God that continues to sustain our lives.
Psalm 127 reminds us of a truth we often forget: “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” God is not forbidding us to work hard. Rather, He teaches that success is determined not only by human effort but also by His presence. The phrase, “He grants sleep to those He loves,” shows that God’s love and care do not stop when we stop working. Even when we are fast asleep, He continues to work on behalf of His children.
Imagine a small child asleep in a car during a long trip. The child doesn’t know which road they’re traveling on, doesn’t know how much of the journey remains, and doesn’t even know what’s happening out there. Yet the child can sleep peacefully because they trust that their father is at the wheel. So it is with our lives. We may not understand every path God leads us on, but we know the One who is in control of our lives. That is why we can rest peacefully—not because all our problems are solved, but because God never stops caring for us.
Rehobot Youth, rest is not a sign of laziness or surrender to circumstances. Rest is an act of faith—an acknowledgment that God continues to work even when we can no longer work. Therefore, if your soul feels weary today, don’t just look for a place to lie down; instead, come into God’s presence. There, a restless heart is restored, and faith is renewed. The body is indeed restored by sleep, but the soul is restored by trust in God, who faithfully cares for us. Rest is not a break from God’s care; rest is proof that we believe His care never ceases.
What To Do?
1. Set aside time to be still before the Lord.
2. Start your day with God’s Word.
3. Learn to let go of what you cannot control.
