Respect Starts at Home

Ephesians 6:1
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.”

Rehobot Youth, let’s be honest—sometimes home is the easiest place for us to “lose control.” Outside, we can be polite, well-mannered, and even seem mature. But at home? We give half-hearted answers, don’t feel like listening, or feel like the rules are “getting in the way of our freedom.” Yet it’s precisely at home that our character is being shaped most tangibly.

Respecting parents and authority at home isn’t about fearing scolding, but about a heart that understands their role. God placed them not to restrict you, but to protect and shape you. Even when rules feel uncomfortable, that’s where we learn obedience, patience, and humility.

Jesus Himself, even though He was the Son of God, still lived in obedience to His earthly parents. That is proof that obedience is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of maturity. If we can learn to respect at home, we will also be better prepared to face the world outside with the right attitude.

So, don’t wait to be told before you act. Don’t wait to be scolded before you change. Respect starts with small things—the way we speak, the way we respond, and the way we value the authority God has placed in our lives.

What To Do?
• Learn to respond to your parents with a polite attitude, not with emotions.
• Do small things without being told as a form of responsibility.
• Remember, honoring your parents = honoring God.
