Overcoming Sin

Genesis 4:7
If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it

Rehobot Youth, have you ever felt jealous, resentful, or wanting revenge? Perhaps you saw a friend who was more successful, more well-known, or more “superior” than you. These feelings are real, and Cain experienced the same thing.

The problem wasn’t the initial feeling, but the response. God had already warned Cain: sin is like “waiting at the door.” Meaning, it hasn’t entered yet—it can still be rejected. But if left unchecked, it can dominate.

Just like we do today. When jealousy arises, when emotions rise, when temptation comes—those are crucial moments. We have a choice: follow that urge, or stop and choose the right path.

God never leaves us alone in our struggles. He gives us warnings through our hearts, through His Word, and even through other people. And He also gives us the strength to say “no.”

So, don’t immediately feel like a failure when you struggle. That’s where you’re being trained. Self-control isn’t about being perfect, but about continuing to choose God in every small moment.

What To Do?
• Be sensitive to the “alarm” in your heart when temptation begins to creep in.
• Pause for a moment—don’t react immediately.
• Choose the right response, not the easiest one.
