Today’s devotion is titled:
Money or a Peaceful Heart

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
— Matthew 6:19–21

Have you ever felt anxious because your pocket money ran out? Or maybe you’ve felt jealous of friends who have more money? Some people even lose sleep thinking about how to earn more money.

This passage shows how Jesus teaches us not to be attached to worldly possessions. It doesn’t mean money is evil or that we can’t have it. Money itself is neutral — what matters is the attitude of our hearts toward it. We must never let money control our thoughts, hearts, or decisions.

Pay attention to Jesus’ words: “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” This means whatever we value most becomes the focus of our lives. If money is our greatest treasure, then our minds will constantly dwell on it. But if God is what we treasure most, our hearts will find peace, because we know He is in control. Pocket money runs out, phones break or become outdated, and branded shoes wear out. But God’s love and the values we live out—like generosity, honesty, and compassion—will last forever. Those are the “treasures in heaven” Jesus was talking about.

When we focus too much on what’s in our wallet, we forget that true happiness doesn’t come from how much we own but from our relationship with God and others. Think about it—when do you feel truly happy? When you get a lot of money, or when you spend time with family and friends you love? Real joy and peace don’t come from wealth, but from a heart filled with love for God and people.

What To Do:

Be thankful every day—whether you have money or not. Gratitude will bring peace to your heart.

Check your priorities. What do you think about the most—temporary things like money, or eternal things like God?

Pray every day. Ask God to help you keep your heart free from the love of worldly possessions and focused only on Him.
