Today’s reflection is titled:
Love When It’s Hard
1 John 4:11
“Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”
Hi, Rehobot Youth! Loving those who are kind to us certainly feels easy. We can be friendly to friends who always support us, help those who appreciate us, or show care to those who are pleasant to be around. However, what if we have to love someone who disappoints us, holds a different opinion, ignores us, or even hurts us? That is where love is no longer merely a feeling, but becomes a choice to obey God.
God’s Word teaches us to love because God first showed His love to us. This means the standard of our love is not determined by how others treat us. We learn to love because we ourselves have received God’s love. When we choose to forgive, speak kindly, help sincerely, and not repay mistreatment with hatred, we are learning to obey God through the way we treat others.
Rehobot Youth, obedience and faithfulness to God become even more evident when loving feels uncomfortable. It is easy to love when we are appreciated, but it takes spiritual maturity to keep loving when we are misunderstood or disappointed. Loving does not mean condoning wrong behavior or allowing ourselves to be continually hurt. Instead, we choose not to harbor hatred, not to repay evil with evil, and to continue treating others according to God’s will.
Therefore, Rehobot Youth, do not measure love solely by how you feel about someone. Measure it by your willingness to remain obedient to God in the way you treat them. True love not only appears when things are comfortable, but is still chosen when things get difficult. Loyalty to God is seen not only in how we love those who are easy to love, but also in how we treat those who are difficult to love.
What To Do?
1. Remember how God has loved you.
2. Choose a response that is pleasing to God.
3. Express love through simple actions.
