Living a Holy Life, Serving God
“But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.” — Daniel 1:8
Hi, Rehobot Youth! Have you ever felt like you have an awesome talent but weren’t sure what to do with it? Many young people have gifts—whether it’s music, leadership, public speaking, or intelligence. But remember, those gifts aren’t just for show or to seek attention; they’re meant to serve God and be a blessing to others.
Daniel was a teenager who was taken to Babylon. He possessed an extraordinary gift of wisdom. However, what set Daniel apart was not just his intelligence, but his courage to maintain a holy life. When ordered to eat the king’s food, which was not in accordance with God’s law, Daniel politely refused. He realized that the gifts and wisdom he possessed must go hand in hand with a holy life.
Imagine if Daniel had simply gone with the flow. He might have remained intelligent, but he would have lost his faithfulness and holiness before God. Young people today are also often tempted to use their talents merely for popularity, praise, or validation from others. Yet God wants us to use our gifts with a pure heart. A gift without holiness can become a trap, but a gift accompanied by a holy life will become a great blessing.
So, Rehobot Youth, if you realize you have a sacred gift, don’t just be proud of having it. Learn from Daniel: keep your life holy and use your gift to serve God. That way, your life will become a living testimony that you are truly made for more.
What to Do?
• Reflect: What gift has God entrusted to you?
• Keep your life holy by courageously saying “no” to things that draw you away from God.
• Use your talents to serve and be a blessing, not just to seek attention.
