Joy Without Having to Fit In
Galatians 1:10
“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
Hi, Rehobot Youth! Have you ever felt like you had to be someone else just to be accepted into a group? Maybe you follow trends you don’t actually like, laugh at things that aren’t really funny, or go along with things you know are wrong just so you won’t be seen as different. Many young people think that being accepted by a certain group will make them happier. However, happiness that depends on human acceptance often keeps us living under constant pressure.
Paul reminds us that the life of a believer isn’t about seeking the approval of people, but about pleasing God. When our main goal is to gain others’ approval, we easily compromise the values God teaches. On the other hand, when we choose to live for God, we are no longer enslaved by human judgment. We learn that our self-worth is not determined by who accepts or rejects us, but by God’s love that accepts us in Christ.
Rehobot Youth, having good friends and a supportive community is a gift from God. However, don’t let the desire to be accepted cause you to lose your identity as a child of God. Healthy friendships will encourage you to grow in faith, not force you to become someone you’re not just to gain approval. God calls you to be a light, not merely to go with the flow.
Therefore, Rehobot Youth, don’t be afraid if you aren’t accepted by everyone. It’s better to lose a social circle than to lose the values God has entrusted to you. When you live to please God, He will guide you toward healthy relationships and give you joy that doesn’t depend on popularity or human acceptance. True joy is born when we know that we have been accepted and loved by God.
What To Do?
1. Examine the motivations of your heart.
2. Have the courage to uphold Christ’s values.
3. Build relationships that help you grow.
