Today’s Devotional:
I am passionate, but I feel empty
but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31)
Have you ever asked yourself, “I am so passionate about ministry, but why does it feel empty?” If so, know that you are not alone. Many believers experience the same thing. We can be so busy with various ministry activities, feeling that everything we do is for God, yet behind it all, our hearts feel empty. It is no longer peace that we feel, but exhaustion that erodes our joy.
When this happens, it may be a sign that we need to pause and examine ourselves. It’s possible that our enthusiasm for ministry stems from misguided motivations. Perhaps we are driven by societal demands, others’ expectations, a desire for recognition, or a need to appear impressive. When those goals are not met, what remains is only disappointment and emptiness, because our focus has shifted from God to ourselves.
God’s Word reminds us that true strength comes from waiting on the Lord. Waiting here does not mean being passive, but placing our hope, surrendering our motivation, and building an intimate relationship with Him. When our relationship with God is deep, ministry is no longer a burdensome task, but a stream of joy that restores us. Our enthusiasm will not easily fade, because its source is not personal achievement, but Him who never runs out of power to give strength. So, if today you feel passionate yet empty, return to God. Ask honestly: “God, what is wrong with my motivation? Are You testing my heart?” Allow Him to reorder your heart, so that every step of ministry arises from pure love for Him. Then we will run without growing weary, walk without growing tired, because our strength comes from Him, the Giver of strength who never diminishes.
What to Do:
1. Serve well and never stop serving God.
2. When you’re tired and feel empty, it’s time to ask whether what you’re doing aligns with Him, the One who gives us strength.
