Grateful in Every Season

Human life does not unfold in only one season. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” There is a time to plant and a time to harvest; a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance. Just as the earth keeps turning and seasons come and go, our journey through life this year has also been full of changes and colors. Yet one thing remains constant: the goodness and faithfulness of God in every season of our lives.

It’s not difficult to be thankful in a season of success. When prayers are answered, when we receive a promotion, or when our health is restored, it’s easy to say, “God is good!” But what about when the dry season comes—when hopes remain unfulfilled, prayers seem unanswered—or even during the stormy seasons, when we lose a job, suffer an accident, or face hardship? It is in those very moments that faith is tested: can we still give thanks, not because our circumstances have changed, but because God’s presence never does?

Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us that every season has a divine purpose. Not one season is allowed by God without meaning. In the season of waiting, God is shaping our patience; in the season of loss, He is teaching us a deeper understanding of love; and when the season of abundance comes, He has already trained us in humility and responsibility. When we view everything through God’s perspective, every season becomes a field where gratitude flourishes.

The apostle Paul wrote, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). This is not an easy command, but a spiritual discipline that strengthens the muscles of our faith. Gratitude should not merely be a reaction to circumstances—it is a deliberate choice of the heart that recognizes God’s goodness in all things. We learn to say, “Lord, I often do not understand Your ways, but I trust in Your sovereignty.” That is where genuine gratitude grows—in the midst of uncertainty, confusion, and doubt—yet holding firmly to the assurance that God will never leave us.

As we look back on our journey through the year 2025, perhaps some things did not turn out as we had hoped. Some prayers remain unanswered, some plans delayed, and maybe some wounds still linger. Yet, are we not still standing today because of God’s sustaining grace? The breath of life He continues to give, the family who loves and supports us, the strength renewed every morning—all are clear proofs of His steadfast love. To be grateful in every season means learning to see God’s hand at work behind every change in life. When leaves fall, we know the tree is preparing to bring forth new shoots. Likewise, God is preparing something new behind the dry seasons of our lives. Sometimes blessings are not immediately visible because they are still in the process of being packaged, but when the time is right, He makes everything beautiful in its time.

As this year draws to a close, let us pray with thankful hearts—not because life is always easy, but because God is always with us. Let us give thanks for every season we have gone through: the season of laughter, the season of tears, the season of sowing, the season of waiting, and the season of harvest; for in all these, the hand of God has been at work, granting the very best to those who love Him.
