Today’s Devotion Title: Forgiving is Easy, Giving In to Forgive is Difficult
1 Corinthians 13:5
Love does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Have you ever felt that forgiving isn’t really the hard part… but giving in so you can forgive that’s what makes your heart heavy? Sometimes we feel we’re right and want to prove it, but giving in means letting go of that “victory” in order to keep love alive. It means choosing an attitude that protects the relationship and peace, even if it means swallowing our “rightness” or our ego.
Jesus set a radical example: He could have defended Himself, but chose to carry the cross instead. He didn’t just forgive He gave in, surrendering His rights for the sake of complete love.
Forgiving means letting go of resentment. Giving in to forgive means letting go of ego. And often, the greatest victory comes when we “lose” for the sake of love. The same is true when we run from God and we end up losing, yet we’ll truly feel loved when we admit that loss before Him.
Sometimes, being right is easy. But being loving… that’s a choice that demands we lose to ourselves. And in that moment, we win together with Him who first “lost” to save us.
What to Do:
1. Test your words before they leave your mouth
Before speaking, say the words in your heart and imagine their impact on your relationship. Ask yourself: “If Jesus were here, would He say this?” If the answer is “no” or you feel unsure, replace it with words that build up.
