Today’s reflection is titled:
Forgive, But Stay Wise
Proverbs 4:23
“Guard your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.”
Rehobot Youth, forgiving doesn’t mean everything goes back to the way it was. We can forgive, but we still have boundaries. Because forgiveness is about setting the heart free, not about granting access without wisdom. Sometimes we think that once we’ve forgiven, we have to immediately get close again, trust again, or act as if nothing ever happened. But that’s not always the case. Some wounds take time to heal, and some relationships need new boundaries to prevent further hurt.
Forgiveness frees the heart from bitterness. But boundaries protect us from the same wounds. Both go hand in hand—love and wisdom. We can still be kind, still show respect, but we don’t have to open ourselves up without limits like before. Jesus Himself taught love, but He was also full of wisdom in relationships. He loved everyone, but not everyone had the same access to His life. That isn’t a lack of love, but mature love.
So, if you still have to meet with someone who has hurt you, continue to forgive. But also protect your heart. Because forgiveness sets you free, and boundaries protect you.
What To Do?
• Forgive from the heart, but set healthy boundaries.
• Be kind without having to open up completely as you did before.
• Ask God for wisdom to know when to draw near and when to keep your distance.
