Today’s Devotional:
Eternal Focus in a Changing World
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
— Hebrews 13:8
Christmas always brings a warm atmosphere—lights, decorations, special services, and moments of reflection. Then just a few days later, we enter the new year with fresh excitement. Our feeds get flooded with resolutions, goals, and “new year, new me” energy. But in the middle of all the changes—new trends, new technologies, even new versions of ourselves—there is one Person who never changes: Jesus, the Prince of Peace we celebrate at Christmas.
Sometimes we’re so busy chasing new things that we forget the center of Christmas itself. We change lifestyles, shift goals, adjust our circle, but often forget the old focus: Jesus, the bringer of peace who was born, wrapped in cloths, and laid in a simple manger. Without Him, every self-improvement effort becomes just another long list with no real meaning.
Year-end renewal is only the beginning. The real challenge is this: in the middle of fast-paced change and the excitement of a new year, are we still fixing our eyes on Christ? A Christian creator, Yosia Adi, once said, “The year may change, but our gaze must remain on Christ.” It reminds us that true transformation only matters when it’s rooted in the One who never changes.
So this Christmas and as we head into the new year, let’s not just make resolutions—let’s reorient our focus. Don’t let the busyness of the world pull your eyes away from Jesus, who came in a quiet night to bring peace. The world will always change, but the Jesus who entered our world in stillness remains the unshakable center. And choosing to follow Him is the best Christmas gift and the best resolution we could ever make this year.
What to Do?
1. Write down one thing you want to renew this year and then reflect: does it bring you closer to Jesus or further away?
2. Every morning during the first week of this year, take 10 minutes to read Hebrews 13:8 and say in prayer: “Lord, You remain the same. Help me to stay focused on You.”
3. Create a simple vision board with verses, keywords, or images that remind you to keep Jesus at the center of all your plans and activities this year. Put it somewhere you see often so your focus doesn’t easily shift.
