Today’s reflection is titled:
Controlling Your Fingers, Preserving Relationships
Proverbs 13:3
“Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin.”
In the digital age, words don’t just come out of our mouths—they also come from our fingers. A single message, comment, or post can build a relationship—or destroy it. Without realizing it, unprocessed emotions are often immediately poured out through chat or social media.
Proverbs reminds us that guarding our words is a form of wisdom. This principle also applies in the digital world. Not everything we think needs to be typed immediately. Not every emotion needs to be shared right away. Controlling our fingers means making room for wisdom before reacting.
Many conflicts arise not because of major issues, but because of words written without consideration. A message sent when emotions are running high, a sarcastic remark in the comments section, or a curt response that sounds cold can hurt others and damage relationships that are actually precious.
Setting digital boundaries doesn’t mean being cold or indifferent. On the contrary, it is an act of love. We choose to preserve relationships by exercising self-restraint, thinking more deeply, and considering the impact of every word we write.
Controlling your fingers is an exercise in spiritual maturity. When we learn to pause before typing, we are learning to live with wisdom and love in the midst of a fast-paced world.
What To Do?
• When emotions arise, pause before replying to a message or writing a comment.
• Ask yourself: will these words build up or hurt?
• Use digital media as a means to bring peace, not conflict.
