Conflict as an Opportunity

Genesis 13:8–9
Then Abram said to Lot, “Let there be no quarrel between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are kinsmen. Isn’t the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me; if you go to the left, I will go to the right; if you go to the right, I will go to the left.”

Conflict often makes us uncomfortable, especially when it happens with someone close to us. But God wants us to learn that conflict can be an opportunity to seek a resolution that glorifies Him. It’s not just about winning an argument, but how we respond with love, humility, and wisdom.

Learn from the story of Abram and Lot. They had a conflict because they had too much property and livestock, to the point that their shepherds quarreled. Abram chose the path of peace: he willingly gave Lot the chance to choose first. Abram’s attitude shows that conflict resolution can be done with a heart that prioritizes peace and glorifies God, not personal ego.

As young people, we often feel we have to prove ourselves right when there’s a conflict with friends or family. But if we learn from Abram, we can see that yielding does not mean losing. In fact, a humble attitude opens the way to healthier and more peaceful relationships.

Conflicts handled with love and wisdom can become opportunities to demonstrate Christ-like character. When we choose to seek resolutions that glorify God, we are learning to become mature individuals ready for God to use in great things.

What to Do?
• If there is a conflict, take time to pray and ask for God’s wisdom before speaking.
• Learn from Abram: prioritize peace, not ego, in seeking solutions.
• Focus on resolutions that build up and glorify God, not just on proving yourself right.
