Come Boldly to God
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace…”
Hebrews 4:15-16a
Rehobot Youth, have you ever felt afraid to come to God because you realized just how holy He is? When we look at our own weaknesses, sins, and shortcomings, we might feel unworthy to stand in His presence. We think God is too holy, while we are too full of failures. Consequently, that fear causes us to keep our distance from God, even though that is precisely when we need Him the most.
It is true that God is a holy Being. There is no sin, error, or darkness in Him. Yet, God’s holiness is not a reason for us to stay away. On the contrary, His holiness reveals the magnitude of His love in providing a way for humanity to come to Him. Through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, the wall of separation between humanity and God has been torn down. We do not come to God because we are perfect, but because Christ has already forgiven and justified us.
Rehobot Youth, the enemy often wants us to focus on our own unworthiness rather than on God’s grace. When we look only at our sins and weaknesses, the fear of God’s holiness can turn into despair. However, God’s Word teaches that forgiveness and restoration are available to everyone who comes to Him. God is not looking for reasons to reject us; instead, He longs to restore the relationship with His children.
Therefore, don’t let fear keep you away from God’s presence. Learn to see God’s holiness along with His love and grace. The more we understand the forgiveness He gives, the more we have the courage to come to Him. Before a holy God, we do not need to hide, because through Christ we are accepted, restored, and taught to live more like Him.
What To Do?
• Come to God as you are.
• Focus on God’s grace, not your failures.
• Build a close relationship with God every day.
