Today’s Devotional Title:
Before You React, Reflect
Ecclesiastes 7:9
“Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit,
for anger resides in the lap of fools.”
In many situations, reaction often comes faster than reflection. When we feel offended, misunderstood, or treated unfairly, we are tempted to respond immediately—through words, attitudes, or rushed decisions. Yet God’s Word reminds us not to be quick to anger, because anger that lingers can damage our own hearts and minds.
Anger is human. But allowing it to take control without processing it wisely is a dangerous choice. Ecclesiastes teaches that uncontrolled anger leads to a loss of wisdom. Reactions born from momentary emotion often result in long-term regret.
Before you react, reflect means giving yourself space to pause. Reflection helps us ask: What am I really feeling? Why does this situation trigger me so strongly? When we stop and bring those feelings before God, we give ourselves the opportunity to respond with wisdom rather than simply react.
God does not ask us to suppress our emotions, but to manage them with wisdom. When we choose reflection before reaction, we are learning to live led by the Spirit—not by temporary emotional outbursts.
What To Do?
1. When emotions rise, pause before speaking or acting.
2. Reflect on your feelings before God through a short prayer.
3. Choose a response that builds up, not one that simply vents emotion.
