The address “Father” taught by the Lord Jesus is not merely a form of greeting in prayer, but a proclamation that we have been adopted into God’s exclusive family. Being part of this family means entering a very special order of relationship, where there is intimacy that the world cannot offer. The Father in heaven does not only desire to be known as a distant Creator; He longs to be admired and glorified by those who consciously love Him. Membership, however, is not a passive status. We truly become God’s family when we begin to walk in life according to the Spirit, not according to the fleeting desires of the flesh.
Walking by the Spirit means aligning every thought and step with the divine frequency. In God’s family, harmony with the Father is the highest priority. When we call Him “Father,” we are reminded again of who we really are. Awareness of our identity as children is the foundation of all obedience. Looking back at the story in Eden, we learn an important lesson: had Adam from the start fully realized that he was a child bearing the divine breath, he would not have so easily ignored God’s warning. Awareness of noble dignity as a child should be a shield that prevents us from being tempted by the world’s false promises.
Human failure often has its root in losing awareness of this identity. When someone forgets that they are a child of the King of the Universe, they begin to seek recognition through wealth, position, or passions. That is why every time we say “Our Father,” we are actually synchronizing our true self. We declare that we do not belong to the world but to God. This calling demands that we continually improve the quality of our following of Jesus. Our accompaniment to God must not be stagnant; we are called to truly live by the Spirit, to put off the old self and put on the new self that is continually renewed.
On this journey, we have the perfect example in the Lord Jesus Christ. He shows what it means to be a Son wholly obedient to the Father. Through His life, we understand what the Bible means when it says Jesus is the Firstborn among many brothers. The term “Firstborn” indicates that Jesus is the prototype or primary model of how a child of God should live. We are His brothers and sisters called to follow His footsteps. This is an extraordinary grace: we who come from the dust of the earth are allowed to be siblings of the only-begotten Son of God.
Jesus as the Firstborn sets a high standard. Living by the Spirit is no longer an optional choice but an absolute necessity to remain within the circle of God’s family. This means letting the Holy Spirit govern our emotions, direct our ambitions, and purify our motives. Only those led by the Spirit of God can truly be called children of God.
Whenever we face temptation or doubt, remember your position in His family. The Father looks at us with the hope that we will grow to resemble our Elder Brother. Let us live today with full awareness of the privilege of belonging to this Great Family. Be a child who makes the Father proud by following the footsteps of the Firstborn in every step of our lives.
