Today’s Devotional:
Be Present, Not Just There
“Let each of you look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.” — Philippians 2:4
Have you ever hung out with your friends, but everyone was buried in their phones? Or maybe you were physically at church, but your mind was busy thinking about assignments, life drama, or someone who still hasn’t replied to your message. Sometimes we show up with our bodies, but our hearts and attention are nowhere to be found. The truth is, genuine presence can be one of the simplest yet most powerful expressions of love.
Be present, not just there means more than just showing up—it means actually engaging. When your friend is opening up, try really listening, not half-listening while scrolling through TikTok. When your family is gathered, try putting your phone away and enjoying the moment. Being fully present is a quiet way of saying, “I care,” and honestly, it’s more meaningful than a thousand sweet words.
Jesus didn’t come to earth just to “show up”—He came to be involved in our lives. If Jesus Himself came to serve and truly be with us, how can we not learn to be present for others? Sometimes people don’t need big solutions; they just need someone who genuinely shows up with a caring heart. The world is loud enough already, but not everyone is truly present.
So let’s choose to be one of the few who show up—not just with our bodies, but with our hearts.
What to Do:
1. When you are with other people today, try to be fully present without distractions.
2. Show your attention through simple things, such as listening sincerely or greeting them first.
