An Obedient Mind
Romans 12:2
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Hi, Rehobot Youth! Every day, many things try to influence the way we think. Friends’ opinions, social media trends, comments from others, and even the desire for acceptance can easily lead us to follow what the majority considers right. However, God’s Word teaches that a life pleasing to Him begins with a mind that is constantly being renewed, enabling us to discern God’s will.
We see this in the life of Micaiah son of Imlah during the reign of King Ahab. When the king asked for guidance regarding a battle plan, many prophets delivered messages that pleased the king. Yet, Micaiah chose to convey what God had revealed to him, even though it differed from the majority opinion. He knew that speaking the truth might make him unpopular or even bring negative consequences upon himself. However, God’s truth mattered more to him than human acceptance.
Rehobot Youth, we too often face pressure to go with the flow. When friends consider cheating normal, when a trend conflicts with the values of God’s Word, or when we fear being seen as different for upholding the truth, our minds are faced with a choice. This is where the renewal of the mind becomes crucial. The more we fill our minds with God’s Word, the more we learn to view things according to His will—rather than just what is popular, comfortable, or widely accepted.
Therefore, Rehobot Youth, cultivating an obedient mind is a daily process. There is no “skip button” for character formation. We need to keep reading the Word, testing what we hear and see, and having the courage to choose the truth, even when there is a price to pay. A mind renewed by God does not simply go with the flow; instead, it learns to discern and choose what pleases Him.
What To Do?
1. Make it a habit to read and reflect on the Word so that your mindset is shaped by His truth.
2. When facing pressure or trends, ask whether they align with God’s will.
3. Ask for the courage to do what is right, even if your choice is different and uncomfortable.
