A Smile Behind the Pain
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
— Galatians 6:9 (NIV)
Have you ever felt completely worn out while serving at church? You’ve given your time, energy, even money yet it feels like no one notices or even cares. You keep smiling on the outside, but inside your heart feels empty and broken. Ideally, ministry should be a shared journey. But in reality, not everyone shares the same heart or mindset. Some only show up when it’s convenient. And in the end, you’re the one who ends up sacrificing emotionally, physically, and even financially. In moments like these, Galatians 6:9 feels like a warm hug from God: Don’t give up. The time to reap will come if you stay faithful. God doesn’t just look at the final outcome. He sees your heart. He sees what you do even when no one else does. Because serving isn’t about looking cool it’s about pleasing the heart of God. Jesus gave us the best example. He once said, “My food is to do the will of the Father.” That means real strength comes when we carry out God’s will with a sincere heart not out of obligation, but out of love. So if today you feel like you’re “losing” in ministry, know this: You’re not foolish. You’re not being used. You’re exchanging your exhaustion for something far more valuable God’s will.
As Jesus said in John 17:4:
“I have brought You glory on earth by finishing the work You gave Me to do.”
We don’t have to blame others or the situation when ministry feels heavy.
When all that’s left is tears and a weary body, may our hearts find rest in this simple prayer:
“Lord, I ask for nothing more. If You are pleased, that is enough.”
Let this devotional become a prayer from your tired place toward His presence where glory replaces tears, and joy replaces pain.
What to Do Today:
1. Spend 10 quiet minutes with God. No need to be formal. Sit still, play a worship song, and let your weary heart rest in His presence.
2. Remember who you’re serving. Say this before you start your ministry task:
“Lord, I serve You. Even if no one sees me, You do.”
3. Rewrite your reason for serving.
Reflect on why you started in the first place.
Write it in your notes app or Bible. When you feel like giving up, read it again and keep going.
You’re on the right path.
