Today’s devotion is titled:
A Leaking Wallet or a Wasteful Heart?
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?”
— Luke 16:10–11
In this verse, Jesus teaches us about faithfulness in small things. Sometimes we think, “Oh, it’s just a little pocket money. When I grow up and earn a salary, then I’ll learn to manage my money properly.” But remember, character isn’t built in a day—or overnight! The way we handle small things today determines how we will handle big things in the future.
Pocket money may seem small—maybe just a few hundred thousand rupiah a month—but how we manage it reveals our true character. Are we impulsive? Wasteful? Or are we wise and responsible? God pays attention to how we manage small “matters” like money, because they are ways He shapes and tests our faithfulness.
If we can’t be trusted with Rp200,000 of allowance, how can God—or even our parents—trust us with something bigger later on? If we are wasteful or dishonest now, how will we act when we have our own salary someday? Managing money wisely isn’t about the amount—it’s about faithfulness.
Managing our wallet well is really training to manage life well. A person who can handle money wisely is usually someone who can manage time, relationships, and responsibilities wisely too. Remember: faithfulness starts with the small things, and God is training us through every rupiah He places in our hands.
What To Do:
Start keeping a simple record of your income and expenses.
Begin giving or sharing with those in need.
Practice self-control and avoid distractions that make you spend unwisely.
