Not Deviating from His Word
Proverbs 16:2
“All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord.”
Hi, Rehobot Youth! Have you ever felt that what you were doing was right simply because it looked good, even though the underlying motivation wasn’t necessarily right before God? We might do things that appear virtuous but are actually driven by a desire for praise, recognition, or self-interest. Therefore, we need the humility to allow God to examine and correct the motives of our lives.
God can reveal misguided motives through His Word. When we live according to the truth of His Word, God helps us see the true state of our hearts. God’s Word serves as a guide so that we don’t just follow our own desires but learn to have motives that align with His will. What seems right to us isn’t necessarily right in God’s eyes, because He sees into the depths of the heart.
Rehobot Youth, having the right motives requires humility. We must be willing to admit when the good deeds we perform are still self-centered. Perhaps we serve to be praised, help others to be seen as good, or do things to gain recognition. When God reveals a wrong motive through His Word or the correction of others, do not harden your heart; instead, make room for Him to shape you.
So, Rehobot Youth, do not focus only on what you do, but also pay attention to the motives behind your actions. Have the humility to accept God’s correction when your life’s motives begin to stray from His will. God looks not only at outward actions but also at the heart—the reason behind everything we do.
What To Do?
1. Check your motivation, is it in accordance with His Word?
2. Pray that God will help you recognize improper motivations.
3. Make God’s Word the basis for straightening your motivation.
