Correction That Shapes Us
Proverbs 3:11–12
“My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.”
No one likes being corrected. Correction can sometimes make us feel uncomfortable, embarrassed, or even defensive. However, correction from God is an expression of His love. He corrects us not to tear us down, but to shape our hearts and attitudes so they align more closely with His will.
Let us look at Apollos, a man who was eloquent and well-versed in the Scriptures (Acts 18:24–28). He was passionate about teaching others about Jesus, yet his understanding of the way of God needed further refinement. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him into their home and explained the way of God to him more accurately. Apollos was willing to receive this instruction. Afterward, he continued his ministry and became a great asset to the believers.
Rehobot Youth, like Apollos, we too need to learn humility when receiving correction—whether it comes from parents, teachers, spiritual leaders, or others God has placed in our lives. Proper correction is not meant to humiliate us; rather, it helps us identify areas of our lives that need improvement. By reading the Bible, listening to sermons, praying, and accepting counsel that aligns with God’s Word, we allow God to continue shaping our hearts and minds.
So, Rehobot Youth, do not immediately reject correction when you receive it. Listen, reflect, and examine whether there is something God wants to refine in your life. Apollos demonstrates that great ability and knowledge still require the humility to keep learning. A heart willing to accept correction is a heart that makes room for God to continue shaping it.
What To Do?
1. Accept advice and reprimands with humility.
2. Pray that your heart remains open to God’s guidance.
3. Make every rebuke an opportunity to grow.
