Speak Life

Proverbs 18:21
“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Hi, Rehobot Youth! Have you ever received words that have stayed with you to this day? Perhaps it was a compliment that restored your confidence, or a hurtful remark that you still remember even though a long time has passed. Words may seem simple, but they can have a profound impact on a person’s life.

Proverbs reminds us that life and death are in the power of the tongue. This shows that our words carry consequences. Words can strengthen someone who is losing heart, but they can also tear down someone who is fragile. Words can mend a relationship, but they can also escalate conflict. Therefore, as children of God, we need to learn to use our words responsibly.

Rehobot Youth, guarding our speech isn’t always easy—especially when we are angry, disappointed, or hurt. In moments like those, we might want to lash out with sharp words. However, as God shapes our lives, we learn to pause before speaking, control our emotions, and choose a response that reflects Christ. This process requires daily obedience, whether in times of comfort or when our hearts are wounded.

So, Rehobot Youth, let your relationship with God shape not only what is in your heart but also what comes out of your mouth. Use your words to speak the truth in love, offer encouragement, bring peace, and build others up. We cannot take back words once they are spoken, but we can learn to choose life-giving words before we say them.

What To Do?
1. Pause for a moment before speaking.
2. Use words to build up.
3. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you control your tongue and choose a response that reflects the character of Christ.
