More Than Just Being Good
Matthew 5:16
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Hi, Rehobot Youth! Being a good person is certainly important. Being polite, honest, helpful, and not harming others are things we should do. However, as followers of Christ, we are called to live more than just being “good people.” Jesus wants our lives to be a light that allows others to see who God is through us.
Jesus said that our light must shine before others, so that they may see our good deeds and glorify the Father in heaven. Notice the purpose: not so that we may receive praise, but so that God may be glorified. This is what distinguishes living as a witness for Christ from simply living a moral life. We do what is right not only because society considers it good, but because we want to please God and reflect His character.
Rehobot Youth, being a witness doesn’t always mean we have to preach or talk about God to everyone we meet. Witness is also evident when we remain honest even when we could cheat, choose to forgive when we’re hurt, treat the outcasts with love, or stay humble in the face of success. These actions may seem simple, but when done out of love for God, our lives begin to reflect something different—the character of Christ.
Therefore, Rehobot Youth, don’t settle for simply being someone your community considers “good.” Live by a higher standard—a life that pleases God. Let others come to know Christ’s love, truth, and character through the way you live. A powerful testimony isn’t just about how much we talk about God, but how clearly God is seen through our lives.
What To Do?
1. Do what is right to please God, rather than seeking praise.
2. Choose honesty, love, forgiveness, and humility in every situation.
3. Reflect Christ through your attitude at school, at work, in your friendships, and on social media.
