Courageous Love

John 13:34
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

Hi, Rehobot Youth! Loving people who are kind to us might feel easy. But what if someone disappoints us, hurts us, or treats us unfairly? That’s when our love is put to the test. Jesus doesn’t just command us to love—He commands us to love as He has first loved us. This kind of love transcends feelings and doesn’t depend on others’ behavior.

One real-life example is Corrie ten Boom, a Dutch Christian woman who helped many Jews hide from the Nazis. She was eventually arrested and imprisoned in a concentration camp. Years later, Corrie met one of the former camp guards who had once tortured her family. When the man asked for forgiveness, Corrie wrestled with her heart. However, remembering the love and forgiveness of Christ that she had first received, she chose to extend her hand and forgive him. That was not human strength, but the love of Christ at work within her.

Rehobot Youth, perhaps you haven’t faced a situation like Corrie’s. However, you may have been hurt by a friend, ignored, slandered, or let down. The easiest response is to retaliate, withdraw, or hold onto bitterness. But when we live close to God, the Holy Spirit empowers us to take a different path. Christ’s love transforms our hearts so that we are able to forgive, continue to do good, and not let hatred control our lives.

Therefore, Rehobot Youth, don’t just be kind to those who are kind to you. Live with the love that comes from Christ. The more you experience His love every day, the more you’ll be empowered to love others, even when it feels difficult. That’s when the world can see that we are truly Jesus’ disciples.

What To Do?
1. Remember God’s love and forgiveness before demanding that others change.
2. Learn to let go of forgiveness, even if it’s not easy.
3. Do one act of love for someone today.
