Today’s devotional is titled:
A New Identity in Christ
2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
Hi, Rehobot Youth! The world has many ways of determining a person’s worth. Some feel valuable because of their achievements, appearance, abilities, number of followers, or recognition from others. Without realizing it, we, too, can build our identity based on all of these things. As a result, when we fail, are compared to others, or don’t receive the acceptance we hoped for, we begin to question our self-worth.
However, God’s Word reveals something different. When we are in Christ, we become a new creation. This means our lives are no longer defined by the past, failures, achievements, or human judgment. Christ is the center of our identity. We belong to Him and have received new life in Him. Therefore, being a follower of Christ is not merely about trying to be a “good person,” but about living a new life that is continually being shaped by God.
Rehobot Youth, when our identity is rooted in Christ, our way of life changes as well. We don’t need to do good deeds just to gain acceptance, because we have already found the foundation of our lives in Him. We learn to speak the truth even when no one is watching, to forgive even when it’s hard, to remain humble in success, and to get back up when we fail. Love, honesty, humility, and forgiveness are not merely efforts to appear good, but the fruit of a new life with Christ.
So, Rehobot Youth, don’t let the world define who you are. Achievements can change, appearances will change, and other people’s opinions can change as well. However, the identity God has given us in Christ is a solid foundation for living our lives. When we know who we are in Christ, we no longer live to earn an identity, but live out the new identity He has given us.
What To Do?
1. Remember that your worth is not defined by the judgment of others.
2. Leave behind old habits that are incompatible with your new life in Christ.
3. Demonstrate your identity in Christ through love, honesty, and humility.
