Obedience in the Wilderness
Deuteronomy 8:2
“Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.”
Hi, Rehobot Youth! Obeying God might feel easy when everything goes our way. But what about when we have to keep doing what’s right even when circumstances are uncomfortable? That’s when our obedience is tested. Obedience isn’t just about following rules or being a “good person”—it’s about choosing to keep walking in God’s will because we trust Him.
The Israelites experienced this during their journey through the wilderness. After leaving Egypt, they had to endure a long journey full of challenges. Yet, even in the midst of those hardships, God continued to provide for them. He supplied manna and guided their journey. Through this process, God was shaping their hearts: would they continue to trust and obey Him when circumstances didn’t go as they had hoped?
Rehobot Youth, we too, may go through times like the “wilderness.” These might take the form of failure, academic pressure, conflicts with friends, family problems, or situations that make us want to give up. In such situations, we are faced with a choice: to follow our own desires or to continue doing what God wills. It is precisely in uncomfortable circumstances that our character, faithfulness, and obedience to God become most evident.
Therefore, Rehobot Youth, don’t just choose God’s path when everything is easy. The Highest Path is to continue walking in obedience even when the path is uncomfortable. Trust that God can use every process to shape our hearts and mature our faith. True obedience isn’t just evident when the path feels easy, but when we continue to choose God’s will in the midst of a difficult path.
What To Do?
1. Keep doing what’s right even when it’s hard.
2. Learn to see God in the midst of the process.
3. Obey because you love God.
