Going Beyond Human Standards

Galatians 5:16
“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”

Hi, Rehobot Youth! In this world, we often encounter various standards for what makes a person “good.” Some judge based on politeness, achievements, the ability to follow rules, or behavior that doesn’t harm others. All of these are certainly good. However, as children of God, we are called not merely to appear good in the eyes of people, but to live a life that is truly pleasing to God.

Paul reminded the church in Galatia to live by the Spirit. This means that the life of a believer does not depend solely on our own ability to do what is right. We need the Holy Spirit to guide and transform our hearts. For we still have our own desires that can lead us away from God’s will. When we make room for the Holy Spirit to work, He helps us choose what is right, even when no one is watching.

Living by the Spirit causes us to ask not only, “Is this permissible or not?” but also, “Is this pleasing to God?” The Holy Spirit shapes our hearts so that love, patience, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control become increasingly evident in our lives. This is a life that transcends mere human moral standards, because the transformation doesn’t just happen in outward behavior—it begins in the heart, which is continually being shaped to become more like Christ.

Therefore, Rehobot Youth, don’t settle for merely appearing to be a good person. Build a close relationship with God and allow the Holy Spirit to lead every aspect of your life. When He leads, goodness is no longer merely an effort to gain human acceptance, but the fruit of a life that seeks to please God. A life that is pleasing to God is not just about doing good, but about who is leading our hearts to do it.

What To Do?
1. Pray every day and ask the Holy Spirit to lead your life.
2. Examine your motives: is it to please God or to seek the approval of others?
3. Practice love, patience, and humility in your daily life.
